It may be the start of a new year, but the SHE+ Foundation has the same commitment: Our mission is to advance women's sexual health and well-being through groundbreaking research, comprehensive education, and unwavering support. We strive to eradicate stigma, empower women with knowledge, and ensure equitable access to quality healthcare for all, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, or geography.
Now more than ever, our sexual health needs to be included in our New Year’s self care plans. Sexual health is an integral part of our overall wellness, and when we take the time to prioritize it, we can have a healthier, and often more fulfilling, year.
We asked around, and here are some practical tips to help you embrace YOUR sexual health in the New Year.
--------------------------------------------------------
Schedule Regular Check Ups
Just like you see your dentist, your primary care physician, or your eye doctor once a year, you should have regular sexual health check-ups. They’re essential for your overall health!
A majority of insurances cover at least (1) women’s well visit per year, and your insurance’s website can provide clarity on which providers are in network for you.
Scheduling an appointment with your healthcare provider allows you to discuss any concerns, update your STI screenings, and explore ways to optimize your health.
Proactive and preventative care are the cornerstone of sexual health.

Invest in Your Education
There are so many resources available to educate yourself about sexual health topics that are relevant to you in your current stage of life. From creators on Instagram or Facebook who seek to make sexual health information accessible, to books written by Urologists, Gynecologists, or Sex Therapists, there is so much to engage with.
Having trouble finding the answers you’re looking for? That’s where the SHE+ Foundation Resource Hub comes in - www.sheplusfoundation.com/resourcehub.
The Resource Hub is a reliable, fact-checked resource to help you find the information you’re looking for, without all the misinformation that comes with the territory of your favorite search engine or social media.
-----
Openness is Key
Whether it is having open communication with your partner, your healthcare provider, or your closest friend, being open about your sexual health needs can not only get you access to the resources you need, but can build confidence, reduce anxiety, and can make you feel less alone.
But the openness does not stop there - understanding your own body is a vital part of sexual health. Openness in exploring what makes you feel comfortable and confident, from mindfulness and self-care, to your own desires, can empower you to communicate your needs more effectively.
------
Set Your Boundaries, and Respect Them.
Everyone has a different relationship with their own boundaries. Our personal boundaries are the limits we set for ourselves in relationships.
Having a healthy relationship with your own boundaries is crucial to prioritizing your sexual health and well-being. Your boundaries give you the ability to reflect on what feels right for you.
----
Don’t Wait!
If you are experiencing pain, discomfort, or changes in your sexual health - do not wait to seek help.
Your health is worth prioritizing.
