Massachusetts General Hospital
Development of a Radiation Oncology Sexual Health Survivorship Clinic for Patients
While pelvic radiation therapy (RT) can be used as a treatment for anorectal and pelvic cancers, it can also cause both acute and long term harmfulness that affects the sexual health of survivors. The goal for Massachusetts General Hospital is to establish a first responder Radiation Oncology Sexual Health Survivorship Clinic focused on patients treated with pelvic radiation therapy.
The clinic will address issues such as premature menopause, infertility, and vaginal dryness. Patients visiting the Survivorship Clinic will receive systematic follow up on their sexual health concerns after receiving pelvic RT.
